A new form of tutorials: a suggestion

Hello, Michael,
I have carefully watched you first 3 tutorials, more than once, and here are some thoughts:
The good thing about them is that they really focuse on the live related objects, more than showing off max's potential. I am new to max but experienced with live and reaktor, so, although the max tutorial that came with m4l really impressed me, I don't feel the urge to learn stuff that I can more or less do with reaktor. On the other hand, to fully understand the live related object and message functionalities is a priority. In this sense, your video tutorials are obviously unique so far: the Live Object Model Reference is probably a good and complete source of information, but only for those who are already familiarized with max. And there is just nothing else I have found anywhere else.

Even your videos, in a certain sense, address more people coming from max: there is no way I can extrapolate any of the tests you do in the first tutorials. I understand the basics of the hot and cold inlets, but I am far of using them intuitively. And I have no idea where to look for info about message syntax like the kind you use in the clips tutorial.

Something that I would find really helpful, is just much more simple examples. Stuff that you, or anybody who understood the basics, can build and post here within 60 seconds. If I understand correctly, a little system that can trigger any clip in a set is composed by a half dozen elements. Typically stuff that I'd love to use before understanding how it works. And then, maybe try to modify for some more specific task, and ask here for advice.

So if you don't dislike the idea, we could start a thread for real noobs, called something like "tiny patchers", where eventually there will be a bunch of super simple structures doing really useful stuff. Maybe different structures doing the same stuff. With discussion around.

hope you like the idea,
cheers, carloskleiber

@carloskleiber

I really took some time to think about what was important to new users when I created my first videos. I realize there is a lot to learn in a new environment and language. I am continually updating the videos with new and hopefully useful features. You comments are very interesting. I was actually thinking of creating a series of tutorials called, "Objectively Thinking" that goes over a object at a time in M4L. I can combine the idea I have with some of the ideas you have to create some interesting tutorials.

Thanks for the comments... They are much appreciated.

Hi.
I'm just thinking about this:
As we're a certain amount of new Max users since the M4L launch, and because Mike may be a human being with only 24h a day like a lot of people on earth, and because we're excited and want to learn...
Why not create a "learn it yourself you stupid noob" thread, where we would propose simple patches ideas and then vote for one we'll have to built together, on week basis for example.
My english is not very good so I won't try to detail the idea, but fortunately this idea looks pretty simple so I guess I don't have to say more.
I'll post this idea on Ableton forum to see what's up.
Maybe I should have created a new thread here to propose the idea; Mike if you think it needs to be done, you're the man.

I have definitely thought about doing just what you are talking about. The thought was to take on a new project either every week, month, or some kind of other increment. We can then vote for a project and all work on it and then go to a next one.

If there is enough interest I would be glad to host it and participate.

Thanks for having translated it in what we call english!
And, for sure the good place for doing this would be here.

I'm in for that idea of weekly or monthly project. I'm only getting in now and I need ot really understand the paths objects and observers stuff...
