The way that i do it is the following...
- open up live and drag a new max audio effect, midi effect or instrument onto a track
- click the edit button on the Live Max patch
- Open up your original max patch
- select everything in the patch and click copy
- go to the open edit window of the new Live Max Patch and click paste
- update the GUI to now use the Live GUI objects
You may have to fix some dependants, but that is about it.
